History
Nils and Arleene Desmet are the founders of Makios IT Services. The duo used his expertise in technology and business, and her accounting acumen to grow a dynamic, service oriented IT company from the ground up.
Nils hails from the Netherlands and is proud to come from a family that boasts a long line of entrepreneurs; you could say that the Desmet clan has entrepreneurship blood flowing through their veins. Nils began his IT career in the U.S. as a webdeveloper / consultant for Huntleigh Technology Group, and Holland Group International, which later merged into Stanton Street Technology Group. In 2006, after almost six years of managing the Network Services at Stanton Street, Nils decided it was time to strike out on his own. He made a deal with Beto O’Rourke, owner of Stanton Street, and was able to buy the book of business.
Now, here comes the twist, Nils fell in love. Yes, that’s right, he met Arleene and the rest we shall say, is history.
It’s easy to see why Nils was smitten with Arleene Valles. The El Paso native, accounting expert, and all around amazing woman, is a force to be reckoned with. Arleene started her career at the Petro Stopping Centers corporate office after earning a BBA in Accounting. Later, Arleene worked her way up the ladder at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) and became Payroll Manager. It was during this time she decided to make the full time leap to join her business partner Nils, at Makios.
With Arleene handling the financial end of things, Nils is able to bring smart solutions to the growing Makios client base. Makios is an honest, multi-cultural and results driven, family affair of a business and they wouldn’t have it any other way.
